Some quests and encounters are hidden fairly well, making it easy to miss them unless you know where to look. The Road To Redemption is one such quest, and unless you show up in the right place at the right time, you’d never know someone needed help.
How To Start The Road To Redemption
You likely won’t know you’ve started this quest until you’ve completed it, as the NPC you need to talk to only goes to the Buddha shrine during the day. If you come across Daohui at night, he’s sprawled out on the floor in the monastery.

To start this quest, head to the monastery on Halo Peak. Continue further up the mountain during the afternoon to find Daohui praying. Speak with him to learn that he’s trying to atone for his past mistakes, believing himself to be at fault for a tragedy that occurred in the Bodhi Sea.
The Bodi Sea is a dangerous area, so be careful if it’s your first time venturing there.
Head to the Pagoda of Karmaful Karma, in the Yongfu Temple, where you’re likely to hear resounding drums pulsing through the swamp. Daohui won’t ask you to bring him anything, but there is a note left in the swamp that can help assuage his fears.
From the Boundary Stone in the pagoda, turn around and go to the open gates. Before all the assist signposts, to the left, you’ll find a scroll on the ground. Pick up the Illegible Final Note and read it to learn more about what happened, though the information is sparse.
The Road To Redemption Rewards
Return to Daohui at Halo Peak and hand him the note. This helps to clear his conscience and allows him to move forward with his life. As a reward, you’ll receive the following items:
