Tomb Raider s New Lara Is Confident About New Games, Despite Fears From Series Co-Creator

Sam (He/Him) is the former Managing Editor of DualShockers and is now Senior Reporter at TheGamer. He’s been in and around games media for six years now and has held a variety of roles within the industry, including staff writer, SEO editor, managing editor and global head of gaming content.
During this time, he’s hosted a PAX panel, interviewed game directors, reviewed some of the biggest games, attended Gamescom, Summer Game Fest, and Tokyo Game Show and covered some of the hottest news stories.
Sam has been learning Japanese for almost three years now, with the intention of bringing you news from the country before anyone else.
He’s been playing video games for as long as he can remember, and you can regularly find him on his PS5 or Nintendo Switch. When he’s not playing games, he’ll no doubt be watching his beloved Ipswich Town.
Although it leaked right before the show, one of the biggest reveals of The Game Awards 2025 was the return of Lara Croft in not one, but two new Tomb Raider titles.
Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the 1999 classic, while Catalyst is set to showcase the next steps the legendary archeologist takes, set in Northern India, some years after Tomb Raider: Underworld.
While the announcement was well received by vast swathes of the gaming community, one of the original creators of the series expressed concerns. Now, speaking to TheGamer, the new Lara Croft actor, Alix Witon Regan (Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Age: Inquisition), has moved to alleviate any concerns they may have.
The New Lara Croft Isn t Worried About The New Games Being Another Remake/Remaster/Reimagining
Speaking on his BlueSky account, Tomb Raider co-creator Paul Douglas expressed concerns about Croft’s return. “She’s back, apparently,” He said. “Personally, I’d prefer exploring new lost worlds than another remake/remaster/reimagining of something we crafted under intense duress in the 90’s. Fingers crossed, eh.”
In a two-part interview with us at TheGamer, in which Wilton Regan first discussed the pain of Perfect Dark’s cancellation, the actor responded to Douglas’s words. “Get back to me in a year’s time with your comments,” she says with a smile. While her words could be seen as inflammatory, there was no malice behind them, with Wilton Regan exuding confidence in what she, Amazon, and Crystal Dynamics are creating.
She says that while she played the games to help understand where her Croft fits into the canon of her predecessors, it would be “counterproductive” for her to spend too much time focusing on previous iterations. Instead, she says her take is a “very, very cool, original reimagining of Lara Croft.”
