Pokemon Pocket Has A Hidden Feature That Makes Rarer Wonder Picks You Need Appear More Frequently

Josh has been playing video games for longer than he can remember, kicking things off with a Master System before upgrading to a Mega Drive. Covering the industry since 2018, if a game has a strong story – or even better, the decisions you make determine the course of that story – odds are he’s going to like it. Or, you know, put Sonic or Pikachu on the cover and that’ll get his attention too.
Whether you got swept up in the launch hype like you did with Pokemon Go or you’re still collecting virtual cards now, over a year later, Pokemon TCG Pocket has clearly been the latest in a string of big hits for The Pokemon Company. However, deep into its second year, there might still be secrets about the game you didn’t realise that could help fill out and fortify your collection.
Most of the Pocket features that the bulk of players don’t know about are mechanics that are never officially explained. We’re left to discover them on our own, and with tens of millions of people opening packs every day, those mechanics will be discovered eventually. It’s just a case of sharing them with others once they’ve been stumbled upon, which is exactly what has happened with the 24-hour Wonder Pick feature.
Waiting For Rarer Cards To Show Up In Wonder Picks
Hardened Pocket collectors will know that, once you near the end of the current set, Wonder Picks start to get pretty frustrating. There will be one or two picks with a single card you need in each. It’s not random, though, not entirely. The game will make sure there’s a Wonder Pick or two in there that will actually interest you, and those picks will get a lot more interesting once you’ve found every diamond card from the most recent set.
That has been explained and demonstrated in action by EPatino44 on Twitter. The clip shows them making a Wonder Pick that, once you have collected every diamond card from the most recently released set, should be available to choose once every 24 hours.
This Wonder Pick differs from most of the ones that appear before you’ve hit this goal, as there’s guaranteed to be a one or two-star card among the available options. Not just any one or two-card, but one that you haven’t registered in your collection yet.
Don’t ask me what happens to the picks once you have all of the one and two-star cards, too. I’ve not been that lucky.
The Odds Are Slightly More In Your Favor
There are still odds at play, though, of course. Just because those rarer cards are going to start showing up in your Wonder Picks every day, that doesn’t mean you’re definitely going to get them. Just like all other Wonder Picks, your odds of getting the card you want will still be one in five.

Those are better odds than finding the cards in packs, though. You have between a 12 and 13 percent chance of pulling a one-star card from any Pocket pack, and around a 2.5 percent chance of finding a two-star card. Also, in that instance, the cards you’re getting are random, and you might end up with duplicates. The Wonder Picks are guaranteed to include a card that’s missing from your collection.
