Final Fantasy 14 Director Q&A Reveals New Details On Ultimates, Beastmaster, And More Glam Slots

FF14 Sphene Art 4

Joshua Robertson is a News Editor for TheGamer. When not writing about breaking news, community stories, or covering industry events, you can find him begging FromSoftware for a Bloodborne remaster.

Another year in Final Fantasy 14 has been and gone, and while numbers may be dropping thanks to a less than stellar expansion, it’s been a pretty decent year. We’ve had some fun raids, with the Arcadion series being one of the best in a good while, and the story is actually starting to get pretty decent – anyone that didn’t cry during that Krile instance is evil and has a heart of stone.

However, we are now in 2026, so it’s now time to look forward to what we can expect from Final Fantasy 14 in the near future. We know that Patch 7.5 will drop at some point, as well as potentially a new expansion at the end of the year, but director Yoshi-P has recently given us some info in his New Year’s Q A on what specifically will be coming to the game this year and beyond.

Everything Revealed In Yoshi-P s New Year s Q A

First things first, Yoshi-P straight up confirms that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is in the works, which will bring Final Fantasy 14 to Nintendo’s brand of consoles for the first time. Exactly how that’s going to work isn’t mentioned, but I look forward to reports of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles exploding when players enter Limsa Lominsa.

As for the game itself, Yoshi-P gave us a little more information about the game’s next Ultimate, which he claimed will be themed around the concept of “meta”. There’s no more information other than that, but eagle-eyed fans did notice that his in-game appearance for this New Year’s Q A was on the Pandaemonium server instead of the regular Chocobo server.

Other than those two announcements, Yoshi-P mainly gave us small little details in response to fan questions. For example, he revealed that there are plans to allow players to customize character animations, a new equipment design contest, a Namazu body glam and for a big update to the character creation system, including skin colors.

We also got another update on how Beastmaster is going, although it wasn’t much of one. He did reveal that new details will be included in the next live letter, most likely some footage if I was to guess, but we’re going to be waiting a hot minute for that.

Finally, we did get some things revealed for the distant future, such as the promise that more glamour slots will be coming after the housing update. That’s excellent news for all of you (including myself) who have been playing around with glams a lot now that the restrictions have been lifted. Yoshi-P also says that more gil sinks are being discussed, and that a note has been made that people want more Nier mounts. Chaotic Shadowbringers alliance raid anyone?

Originally the Crystal Tools engine, but currently it’s a custom engine using parts of the Luminous Engine.
