Despite being a Game of the Year nominee at The Game Awards 2025 (and my personal GOTY), Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 walked away empty handed. Warhorse Studios from the Czech Republic poured a lot of love into the RPG, amassing fans all over the world, and the studio will have to settle for that. However, the game did make it into Czech president Petr Pavel’s New Year’s address, along with some other achievements by the country.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 follows Henry of Skalitz in the early 15th century, where a civil war is brewing for the crown of Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). It features many historical events and characters from the country, even giving tourism in the Kutna Hora region a bit of a bump. It’s definitely something the country should be proud of.
Czech President Praises KCD2 In His Address
“We can make almost anything here – we are one of the few countries in the world that can make everything from watches to airplanes, from our own design to production,” said Pavel in his speech (translated by Google). “A Czech computer game has become a global hit. We have world championship titles in canoeing by Martin Fuksa and snowboarding by Ester Ledecká. At the age of 17, David Kratochvíl won several world championship titles in paraswimming and set European and world records.”
KCD2 put some off with its in-depth mechanics, but 2026 might be able to help with that
While Pavel didn’t mention Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 by name, it’s pretty obvious that he was talking about Warhorse’s RPG. The game was one of the first big launches of 2025, and captured audiences from around the world. Tom McKay, who played Henry, and Luke Dale, who played the lovable Hans Capon, became fan favourites.

Pavel isn’t the first global leader to praise a game in 2025. French president Emmanuel Macron celebrated Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on two separate occasions. First at launch, when the game took the title of highest-rated user-scored game on Metacritic ever, and then when it swept The Game Awards, calling it a “historic first for a French title.”

They should be proud. I’ve definitely become more interested in Czech history and geography, solely because of this game.
