Cooking in Where Winds Meet is much more than a simple survival mechanic; it asks you to explore and interact with the richly designed world around you. Whether it’s for ingredients, recipes, or encounters, each aspect of the game helps you to improve your skills, which can keep you fighting that bit longer.

At its core, cooking allows you to prepare dishes that restore health and grant temporary buffs that could dramatically influence combat. Find everything you need to know about recipes and mastering the culinary arts in our guide below.

How To Cook

To create a meal in Where Winds Meet, you first need to learn the recipes, which, though already known, must be unlocked. Different recipes have different conditions to unlock them; we’ve listed them in the table below. Once you know the recipes (one is already unlocked for you when starting the game), you’ll need ingredients.

Ingredients range from animal meat to fungi and are usually quite easy to find in your surroundings. If you don’t have the required items when attempting to cook, you can find locations on the map where you can forage, fish, or hunt to obtain them.

If you’d rather just stock up on ingredients instead of hunting for them, you can also be pointed in the direction of a merchant using the same system on the cooking screen.

Once you have everything you need, all you have to do is approach a fire with a pot/spit over it, and the cooking interaction will become available. From this menu, you can cook or find help with ingredients as mentioned above. Some dishes are simple, offering small healing benefits, while others can provide you with powerful buffs such as increased attacks.

Recovery Dish Recipes

In Where Winds Meet, there are two different types of meals for you to create. Some will solely aid you in recovering your HP over time, while others give you a certain type of buff. There are currently 13 types of Recovery Dishes in the game.

As you can see from the table above, all cooking costs a certain amount of stamina. Remember this when you’re bulk-cooking meals.

Although there are fewer recipes that give you buffs in Where Winds Meet, they’re just as helpful to learn and appear in the next tab along when attempting to cook. At the moment, there are six types of Buff Food recipes in the game.

These meals don’t stack, meaning only one buff effect can be active at a time.
