Resident Evil 4 Remake Dataminer Has Partially Restored A Cut Prologue That Features Playable Ashley

Resident Evil 4’s remake was originally going to kick off with a prologue featuring playable Ashley, and one fan has given us our best idea of what the cut “Chapter 0” would have looked like.
When Resident Evil 4’s remake was revealed all the way back in 2022, its first trailer kicked off in a bit of a strange way. Rather than focusing on Leon, the reveal trailer instead started by shining a spotlight on Ashley Graham, who is seen running away from a mysterious figure and past what looks like the shack that kicks off Leon’s adventure.
The specific shots used of Ashley in the announcement trailer never ended up in the final game, as Leon and Ashley are both far from the shack once they meet. This seemed to suggest a section focused on Ashley was once planned for the remake, which one dataminer has confirmed and managed to partially restore.
Resident Evil 4 s Lost Chapter 0 Has Been Recreated
A Slower Start That Gave Ashley The Spotlight
According to Thekempy, Chapter 0 would have kicked off after Ashley witnesses a ritual killing in the forest, a scene that was actually featured in a story trailer for the game but then never used in the final release. From there, Ashley would have traversed a path near the lakeside settlement, avoiding Ganados and slowly making her way towards the village.
From there, Thekempy’s recreation of Ashley’s playable segment suggests that she would have mostly just crawled in and out of a shack, been chased up the village, spotted a Ganado carrying Luis, and then been chased by more Ganados herself, eventually leading to her being kidnapped in a cutscene that no longer exists in the game’s files.
It’s a fairly standard prologue in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a little surprising to find out how close to completion it was, especially with several cutscenes already put together for it. As nice as it is to see more of Ashley, Capcom definitely made the right move keeping the original game’s fast pace.
Bethesda’s latest RPG is likely coming to PS5, but don’t expect a comeback on the scale of Cyberpunk 2077.
