I can’t believe it’s taken more than four years, but a talented Red Dead Redemption 2 player has created a mod that finally removes the need for hotel (and barrel) baths.
One of the most divisive elements of Red Dead Redemption 2 is its survival mechanics, which require you to pay a bit more attention to Arthur’s well-being than you did with John in the first game. Arthur gets hungry, craves tobacco for Dead Eye, can put on or lose weight, and even needs haircuts if you don’t want him looking scruffy.
Most of those status conditions are pretty easily dealt with by just consuming some kind of item in your inventory, but there’s one condition that’s a bit more annoying – keeping clean. Arthur gets quite dirty with all the gunslinging, which means having to wash in a specific camp barrel, pay for a bath in a hotel, or chucking yourself into a river (not a great option for John).
As If Red Dead Redemption 2 Wasn t Immersive Enough, Now You Can Wash Yourself In Rivers And Lakes
Finally, John Doesn t Have To Drown To Be Clean On The Go
Well, that’s not the case anymore thanks to a new mod on Nexus Mods from creator Saul0097, which is aptly titled “Wash Yourself”. As the name suggests, this mod lets you clean Arthur and John by using shallow water from rivers, lakes, ponds, and pretty much anything in the world that’s wet.
Someone else is the perfect choice to play the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3.
This means you no longer have to throw yourself into the water’s mercy or pay far more than you need to for a hotel bath. As you can see from the video above, now you just need to stand near some water and hold the interact button to get a quick animation and come out fresh as a daisy once again. I imagine this is especially helpful for John since he can’t swim.
To be fair, you could still wash in rivers and lakes in the base game by diving in, but it didn’t have a dedicated animation like this.
To keep things a little balanced compared to the baths, washing also gives a stamina boost that’s limited by a six-hour cooldown, which means you can’t just spam washing over and over again for extra stamina. If that wasn’t enough, it sounds like Saul0097 is also looking into ways to make Wash Yourself work with barrels around the world, which would certainly bring those Kingdom Come vibes.
