One of the rarest skins in Where Winds Meet, Celestial Mortal, can be only be unlocked if you build the Mirage Boat, which can cost you more than $40,000 if you get unlucky with rolls.
For as long as online games have been a thing, there have always been ridiculously expensive skins, mounts, and cosmetics that most players are simply never going to bother with. These status symbol items have become even more of a trend in gacha games, which tempt you with the chance of rolling and getting lucky enough to get rare items without spending too much.
Where Winds Meet is the latest online free-to-play game with gacha elements that’s taking the world by storm, so it probably won’t come as much of a surprise that it has its fair share of rare cosmetics. There’s one particular skin that absolutely takes the cake, though, as it can potentially cost you more than $40,000 depending on how lucky you are.
One Of Where Winds Meet s Rarest Skins Can Cost $42,000, But At Least It Comes With A Boat
Talk About Spending A Boatload…
As reported by Dexerto, the skin in question is called Celestial Mortal, and it’s a free gift that’s awarded to players who manage to build a Mirage Boat. How can a free gift cost so much and be so rare, I hear you ask? Well, it’s because actually building the boat, which requires 170 blueprints, is entirely dependent on rolls, and both the ship and corresponding outfit are at the top rarity level of a recent banner.
The odds of rolling for the boat as low as you’d expect, but Where Winds Meet does eventually guarantee the reward once you’ve spent a certain amount of money on it, thanks to a mechanic called “hard pity”. As pointed out by Gamersky, Chinese players have managed to figure out that the hard pity limit for the ship (and therefore Celestial Mortal) is 300,000 RMB, which is around $42,000.
The ship itself actually acts as a sort of social hub where players can play minigames and get rewards. Of course, whoever owns the boat is undoubtedly showing off the Celestial Mortal outfit alongside it.
Of course, that hard pity limit assumes that you’re the unluckiest player in the world when it comes to rolls, so the actual price of the getting the ship and skin are likely to be a bit lower than $42,000 (although some claim it’s actually closer to $60k). If you do end up getting unlucky, though, you’re looking at spending a boatload to get the incredibly rare drop.
