They studied Games Development at University and decided to put that knowledge to use writing about them instead of making them. They are also a digital photographer aficionado and waste most of their time taking silly in-game images.

There’s a lot to find and do in Where Winds Meet. Many of the side quests can be quite small, going deep into the philosophical layers of debate, the meaning of martial arts, chasing away geese, chasing after your own horse after a thief steals it. There’s a lot always happening. But sometimes, you’ll come across a quest that is just staggeringly unique.

One of those quests is Blind To The World, which has you draining an entire lake while following a rumour to find the Lunar Goddess buried beneath it all. The quest even has unique mechanics all of its own, and there’s not a drop of combat to be found. It’s a wonderful breath of fresh air compared to so much of the game, with plenty of puzzles that will have you scratching your head.

How To Start The Blind To The World Quest

The Blind To The World quest is found in the Qinghe region, by Moonveil Mountain. It is centred around the lake there, and the statue underneath it. However, while your character will remark upon it, you cannot do anything until you’ve started the quest connected to it. To that end, you must first meet with Unfated Tian who is standing on one of the nearby cliffs overlooking the lake.

Speaking with him, he’ll say that he was given a letter telling him to come here in search of Lunar Goddess and the treasure within. But before you can do anything with that, you’ll need to drain the lake so that you can actually interact with the statue of the blind woman down there. So that’s our first order of business.

Entering The Cave

Dive into the lake and get searching. In the centre you will find a giant drain and three chains attached to it. All you have to do is follow those chains to find what they’re connected to, and interact with the mechanism to unlock tem. After all three are opened, the drain will do its job, sucking all the water from the lake, letting you walk it with ease.

You have limited air while underwater, so make sure to surface every once in a while to catch your breath.

After draining the lake, you’ll be brought back to Unfated Tian, who will immediately leap into the drained lake and proceed to the statue. Follow after him, making sure to use a Mighty Drop so you don’t break your legs from the distance of the fall.

How To Solve The Statue Puzzle

With the statue uncovered, we need to solve another puzzle. Around it are four pressure plates, and one large one. Step on the large one to begin the puzzle, activating the other four pressure plates.

The goal here is to step on them in the right order to open the entrance to the cave of the Lunar Goddess. And the solution to this is stated for you quite clearly in the note that Unfated Tian gave you. North, East, South, and West. This is the order in which you must step on the plates.

Note that you can step on the same plate multiple times, so be precise with your footing so you don’t activate one twice by mistake.

The mini-map is fixed to follow north, so orientate yourself based on that. Starting from the north pressure plate, you are following around in a clockwise motion. If you get it right, a short cutscene will trigger showing the cave entrance. If you get it wrong, Unfated Tian is blasted away and you’ll need to stand on the large pressure plate again to restart the puzzle.

Inside The Cave

Once you enter the cave, it’s relatively smooth sailing. Don’t walk into all the pieces of fabric, cutting them down instead or else they’ll explode in your face. You will also come across a massive collapsed bridge during your searching of the cave, one that you can’t surpass. Your jumping is limited here, so you’ll need to find another way around. There’s actually a small entrance just off to the side from this room, so head there to continue.

For the rest of the area, you’re swimming through underwater caves. There aren’t many places to catch your breath here and it’s quite dark, so try to be fast when swimming through here, using Wind Sense to see the direction you must follow. After you’ve finally gotten back to dry land, you’ll be faced with a locked door, and another puzzle to solve.

Solving The Bell Puzzle

Somehow, Unfated Tian arrived ahead of you, though has still had no luck in solving this puzzle by himself. There are some rather conspicuous bells hanging above the door, however, and arrows scattered all around the area. So it’s pretty clear what we must do. At least at a glance.

Head to the hill above and note that there is a pedestal. Interacting with this will cause the bells to ring in order, with your goal being to hit them in the order they rung out to unlock the door. Except there’s an extra trick going on here.

As Unfated Tian will remark, the blue flowers around here make you blind but heighten your sense of hearing, and there just so happens to be some right beside the pedestal. Step into these flowers first and then activate the pedestal. The bells will ring out in a different order than when you pressed the button without the flowers. Shoot them in this sightless order to finally unlock the door.

It’s fine if the effects of the flower wear off by time you’re shooting the bells, as long as you get the order right. It’s fairly hard to see them under the effects of the flower, anyway.

Here at last, we see the Lunar Goddess, having herself died behind locked door, away from her pursuers. But Unfated Tian is determined to fulfill her wishes, just as the letter urged him to. Resting on a table on the steps ascending to the Lunar Goddess are a box of frozen eyes that would grant her sight. Give these to her now, as you’ll have to explore the rest of this area shortly afterwards.

Tian notes that she does not want the eyes, even in death. It was not her final wish. As such, you are tasked with searching this area to find if there is anything else left behind that would fulfill her final wish.

Head on down to find her living area filtered with her belongings. There are two items we’re looking for. The first is a knife, laid on the table, and the second is one of those blue flowers right across in a small little garden, one of the only ones that remains in bloom. Return now to the Lunar Goddess.

There are also plenty of notes around the place if you’d like a bit more insight into the Lunar Goddess herself.

You can choose to give the Lunar Goddess either item, though you can’t actually make a wrong choice. She will reject the knife if you offer it to her, only accepting the flower. She was happy to be blind because the flowers showed her the beauty that still existed in the world. You can now leave through the crack in the wall further down, and get the Blinding Mist Mystic Art as a reward.

Here’s how to beat Qianye the Witch during the final quest in the Qinghe storyline in Where Winds Meet.
