Ned Luke, the actor behind Michael de Santa in Grand Theft Auto 5, has successfully caught and convicted one of the people who swatted him during a livestream.
If you’ve been watching streamers for long enough, then you’re no doubt familiar (and rightfully hate) swatting, which is when anonymous users call a SWAT team on someone under false pretenses to harass them. It’s happened to tons of big-name streamers over the past few years, and it’s just a frankly terrible thing to go through.
Sadly, it’s something that Ned Luke, the actor behind GTA 5’s Michael de Santa, has gone through on multiple occasions, including while streaming GTA 5 on Thanksgiving. Luke was obviously very unhappy with the situation, but it seems like he’s getting some payback on at least one of the people behind the harassment.
The Actor Behind GTA 5 s Michael Is Getting Payback On A Swatter
As pointed out by Twitter user GTAVI_Countdown, Ned Luke recently shared a photo of a letter from the US Department of Justice on his Instagram page, with the caption, “F**k around and find out”. The court document, which was shared with Luke on December 10, notes that an unnamed person has been convicted and will have a criminal sentencing next month.
The entire release calendar moves every time GTA 6 does, so how will the latest delay impact everything else?
While Luke doesn’t outright say that the court date is to do with the swatting incidents, the actor has liked multiple comments on his Instagram page asking him if it’s related, all but confirming that it is. Luke also seems intent on getting justice against anyone else who has swatted him, since he mentions “many more names discovered and provided”.
If you’re wondering why it’s taken so long since the swattings occurred in 2023, that’s because federal cases can take between one and two years.
Considering how many swatters get away with anonymously harassing streamers, it’s a notable victory that Luke has managed to track down even one of the people responsible. The hearing isn’t for another month, but we’ll have updates on the situation (which hopefully goes Luke’s way) whenever they’re shared.
