As If The OG Silent Hill Wasn’t Scary Enough, Someone Is Making It Fully Playable In VR

Silent Hill PS1 4

On their own, horror games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Dead Space are terrifying, with moments that will make you want to chuck your controller against the wall as you run away screaming. Then came the advent of Virtual Reality (VR) and those horror games, which were already tough to stomach, became even more fear-inducing.

While not every horror title known to man has made the jump to VR, one fan is helping ensure that one of the most iconic titles, the original Silent Hill on PlayStation 1, gets its due.

The result? Silent Hill (1999) VR edition, an upcoming release from VRified Games, a self-proclaimed “VR enthusiast who loves getting flat-screen games running in VR.”

In a near-two-minute-long video shared on YouTube, they stressed that their project isn’t a “Fan Remake” or “Port,” but rather an experiment in taking the original title, making it entirely playable in first-person stereoscopic 3D with increased head-tracking and modernized controls.

There is no release date for the project other than “soon-ish,” and fans are encouraged to subscribe to their YouTube channel for the latest updates, which have included a look at how things will work in real-life.

Whereas Resident Evil has received the modern VR treatment, Silent Hill and its renaissance haven’t. That seemingly prompted the creator to take matters into their own hands.

“Same, been waiting literally years until I went full Thanos and said, ‘Fine, I’ll do it myself,'” they wrote in response to someone.

Whatever the case may be, it seems horror and VR fans will have yet another title to add to the list. Go figure, it isn’t the only Silent Hill-related thing, official or unofficial, in the works.

Silent Hill Fans Are Eating Good, And It Doesn t Sound Like Things Are Stopping Anytime Soon

To recap, in 2024, Silent Hill 2 Remake was released, and while there was some initial trepidation, Bloober Team absolutely knocked it out of the park, helping bring the horror classic forward to modern hardware.

A year later, the first new Silent Hill project in years, Silent Hill f, was released to critical acclaim, marking back-to-back years with Silent Hill games. Meanwhile, Bloober Team was chosen to remake the original Silent Hill title, adding a third game to the books.

Most recently, Silent Hill’s producer, Motoi Okamato, shared hopes that the team could release a new SIlent Hill game each year now that the franchise is back on track. It’s a bold statement, but with two hits under their belt, who’s to stop them?

If all that wasn’t enough, there’s also a live-action Return to Silent Hill movie slated for release later this month. It doesn’t look particularly incredible, but we’re willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The addition of a VR title is really just another cherry on top of what has been a full-blown resurrection.

After the success of the Fallout TV show’s second season, many people are looking for a new game. Guess what: it’s already available.
