A new update for Arc Raiders is officially live and along with introducing a new event, there have been various core game additions and tweaks. Along with balance changes, this update introduces a new material that can only be discovered during a specific weather event on four out of the five maps.
Here’s everything you need to know about finding Fossilized Lightning and whether storing some in your stash is really worth the time and effort.
Where To Find Fossilized Lighting
Unsurprisingly, you can only find Fossilized Lighting during the Electromagnetic Storm event on any of the maps that it’s available on. The catch is, this isn’t an item that is just lying around waiting for you to grab it, or stored in specific points of interest.
Instead, this material only has a chance to spawn after a lightning bolt strikes the ground. However, the likelihood of this occurring is extremely low. During my testing, I was only able to obtain a single Fossilized Lightning after a couple of dozen lightning strikes hit around me. The actual material will spawn at the center of the bolt’s impact and appear as a large, twisting rock.
For the unfamiliar, you can tell when lightning is about to strike due to the distinctive blue electricity and sparks that emit on the ground. When this happens, you have about 2–3 seconds before the lightning bolt hits the ground. If you’re caught in the blast, you’ll almost certainly lose your entire shield as well as a portion of your health.
Remember, Fossilized Lighting cannot be purchased, crafted, and nothing recycles into it.
If you’re looking to farm this item, remember that it only takes place during the Electromagnetic Storm, which only lasts a little over an hour when active. This gives you about 2–3 sessions, depending on how long you stay in the raid.
I recommend finding a location with a small overhang and some open space. You can hang out in the exposed area until the lightning is about to strike you, and then duck down into the covered location to protect yourself. That being said, as long as you keep an eye out for where lightning hits when traversing the map, this really isn’t an item you’ll need to farm.

Unfortunately, as of right now, the Fossilized Lighting doesn’t serve a purpose in the game. However, with new updates and the first wipe about to take place, this could easily change. Recycling the Fossilized Lighting will net you three Explosive Compounds, or you can sell it for 4,000 dollars if you’re low on cash.
If you’re planning on partaking in the first Expedition, I would just sell any you come across so you can put it towards earning free skill points. For those not resetting, it might be worth passively getting a couple to just store in case they become useful down the road.
