They are also a digital photographer aficionado and waste most of their time taking silly in-game images.

Where Winds Meet is an amalgamation of every possible game you could think of. It has soulslike boss fights, Sekiro-like deflection, a massive open-world, endless minigames, complex dungeons, well-written side quests, the ability to create your own buildings, MMO mechanics. There’s something for everyone.

It somehow pulls it all off for the most part too, though there are times when the game perhaps goes just a bit too far. Tian Ying is spoken about a lot by characters around the world, so it only makes sense that he is an imposing figure when you come face-to-face with him. Just, maybe not this imposing.

Tian Ying s Boss Fight Location

To find Tian Ying and battle him, you’re going to have to put in some legwork first. Tian Ying is battled at the end of the Halo Peak Campaign and The Promised Light Jianghu Legacy in Qinghe, which are both done simultaneously.

To start them, you must first gather the Yin and Yang segments of the Buddha’s Light Jade. We have a more in-depth guide on that, but you can find tem both in Qinghe as part of other campaigns.

The Yin segment can be found in Bodhi Sea in the north of Qinghe, and is gotten after beating Ye Wanshan at the end of the campaign. For the Yang segment, you can get it from completing the Palace of Annals Campaign, which is in the south of Qinghe. After beating Lucky Seventeen, it is added to your inventory.

With both pieces, head back to Halo Peak and put both pieces of the Buddha’s Light Jade into the very top of the tower during the Wu hour. This will trigger a cutscene where the light shines directly onto the tower and sends a light into the chamber below as a mysterious individual opens the door at the bottom of the tower.

Follow them in and complete the various light puzzles along the way to reach the very end, where you will finally have the chance to face off against Tian Ying. It may take you a while.

Tian Ying is a stand-out not only in this game, but in gaming in general. He is a difficult boss, yes, but he also has a rather unreasonable three phases, all of which are incredibly difficult.

There’s no initial indication of this, either. Unlike other bosses that how many health bars, and thus phases, they have, Tian Ying grants you no such mercy. You have to fully deplete every health bar to advance to the next phase, and you have to start all over if you fail any of them.

Every phase also acts quite differently from one another with no shared moves. That means you have to adapt on the fly to be able to beat him. You better get good with that deflect button, though.

Phase One

In phase one, Tian Ying is at his most simple. He’s slower than other phases and gives you plenty of time to land hits on him. Be aggressive with him as he overall is slow to approach you. His attack strings are fairly well telegraphed as well, with the majority being just swings of his staff that can be deflected to deplete lots of his Qi.

He does have another attack where he quickly slams his staff down. If you’re in front of him when he does this, he is likely to follow up with a quick palm strike, so be wary of this and ready to deflect.

A big move to look out for here is when he stands still and starts charging, no longer able to be staggered. He will be preparing a powerful arena-wide slam with his staff, though there is a unique interaction here. Just before he slams his staff, a button prompt will appear on him. Pressing this activates Meridian Touch, knocking him down and canceling the attack.

This interaction can occur at any distance, though try to do it while right in front of him so you have more time to attack him when he’s down.

This forms the majority of his attacks. It is quite possible to get through this phase completely untouched with patience with how predictable and readable all of his attacks are here. And that’s the end of the easy part.

Phase Two

In phase two, you are transported to a new arena entirely. Here, Tian Ying drops the staff and opts to use his feet and fists instead, pummeling you with lightning-fast combos. The slow attacks of phase one are gone entirely, and the copious effects going on can make it a bit harder to track when exactly an attack is flying your way.

For the most part, just assume that if Tian hits you, he’s going to perform a few more attacks as he rarely stops at a single one. He also has a move where he does a series of whirlwind kicks on you in quick succession. Just spam the deflect button during this and you should deflect them since they’re coming out so quickly.

Successfully deflecting this attack in subsequent rematches against Tian Ying gives you progress towards unlocking the Free Morph Mystic Skill.

Another of Tian’s moves involves him bringing forward one of the statues from the background to double up on his own punches. There are two versions of this attack. One has the duo attacking at rapid speed with a flurry of focused punches in a small area. The other has them performing slower, more powerful punches that hit a wider area.

Tian is locked in place during this so attack him from behind if you can’t deflect the attacks successfully. Some Martial Arts can also cancel this attack, giving you a few seconds to attack Tian before he recovers.

Another of Tian’s major attacks has him hovering in the air in a meditative stance while he takes control of one of the statues in the background. You can attack him with arrows during this, though it’s not particularly worth it. Focus instead on deflecting the incoming attacks because they deal massive Qi damage.

The first swipe of the hand is easy to read, though the second attack is much harder to read since there’s not an obvious animation for it. If you can’t get the deflect timing on it, it’s better to just dodge it.

Phase Three

The third and final phase of Tian Ying may not be his hardest phase, but after being whittled down from the previous two, it can be hard to survive even a single error.

In this phase, Tian uses his dagger to battle you, and teleports around the arena to take you by surprise. Because of this, there are very few openings for you to land your own attacks against him. Deflection to wear away his Qi becomes the main method during this section of the fight.

Make sure to stay locked on to Tian during this phase. When he disappears it may seem like the lock-on has broken, but it will connect again as soon as he reappears, flinging the camera to face him. This is helpful as he attacks almost immediately after he reappears, and this should help you get the timing down.

At one point in the fight, Tian will summon sand clones of himself. These attack you often and have quite a lot of health. Tian himself will disappear during this phase, appearing again to attack periodically. Avoid attacking the clones though. Instead, deflect Tian as he appears and this will cause a clone to disappear. After three deflections, all the clones will be gone and this will deal a high amount of Qi damage to Tian.

This comprises the majority of his attacks. It may take a while, but once you’ve gotten used to it, the fight will become one of matching his rhythm. Once he’s defeated, you just have to swim away from the cave to complete the fight and get your rewards.
