A New Father Is Going Viral For Bringing Their Entire Xbox Setup To The Delivery Room

call of duty characters sucking a dummy and wearing a nappy on their head. 4

Josh has been playing video games for longer than he can remember, kicking things off with a Master System before upgrading to a Mega Drive. Covering the industry since 2018, if a game has a strong story – or even better, the decisions you make determine the course of that story – odds are he’s going to like it. Or, you know, put Sonic or Pikachu on the cover and that’ll get his attention too.

A clip that has been circulating on social media over the holidays appears to show a new father being handed his newborn child for the first time. The reason it’s gone viral is because the dad stands up from an elaborate gaming setup they’ve put together right in the middle of the delivery suite to take the newborn from the doctor.

The clip shows a man standing up from an elaborate Xbox setup, complete with a monitor and headset, to take the baby from a doctor. While it might look like the baby had been born minutes earlier, it’s not clear if that’s the case, although what is clear is that the gaming dad brought all of that stuff with him to the hospital when it was time for his partner to give birth.

The Internet Reacts To A New Dad Bringing His Gaming Setup To The Delivery Suite

The knee-jerk reaction has been shock, of course. However, the amount of support the unnamed gamer has received in the wake of the clip going viral has been pretty surprising. Those who have been through the process of having a child note how much waiting around there is, and that he is simply passing the time in moments where his partner doesn’t necessarily need him.

Others have come to the dad’s defense, noting that he might be a streamer and is quite literally stepping away from his job to take his new son or daughter from the incoming doctor. The bulk of reactions to the viral clip range from shock to downright disgust, however, and even though we still know very little outside of what is shown in the short clip, most likely agree with the sentiments shared in those reactions.

Whose Side Are You On?

Some have accused the dad of choosing gaming over his partner, seemingly paying her no attention in the moments before, although again, we don’t know all the details. My concern, which I seem to share with many other people, is just how much of his setup he has brought with him. To bring a monitor along with you, and then seemingly proceed to play Call of Duty online, is a little much.

I currently have a three-week-old son and freely admit that I played video games at the hospital while we were waiting for him to arrive, and then after he was born, so I can speak to this better than most. However, my hospital-based gaming was limited to playing Super Mario Galaxy on my Switch 2 (strictly in handheld, I didn’t arrive with a monitor under my arm). I also didn’t have to put my Switch down to be handed my baby by a doctor, but again, until the dad or the mum reacts to the clip going viral, we don’t know much about their situation.

Anybody saying that can’t have been at a birth. There is no point that you aren’t needed. At least not when the baby is actually on its way. Maybe at a push when contractions are half an hour apart, but when they are every minute or 30 seconds, which can last for hours and hours then not a chance. You wouldn’t have time to turn on the Xbox and log in, let alone play anything.
