As you explore the jianghu in Where Winds Meet, you’ll uncover dozens of secrets and fighting styles you can learn to take on powerful bosses. Each is unique, granting special abilities and different move sets so that you can fully customize your character’s combat techniques.
The fan is an elegant and noble weapon to use, granting you ranged attacks and the opportunity to heal if you want to lean toward a supporting role. We’ll break down the best builds for the fan martial arts so you can balance elegance with offensive tactics in combat, regardless of your familiarity with battle.
Best Inkwell Fan Builds
When it comes to combat, the fan isn’t the most powerful, but it’s a capable weapon for ranged attacks and style. The Inkwell Fan martial art allows you to use light attacks from a distance to deal damage to enemies, keeping your distance while engaging the Jadewind Shield to protect yourself.
This martial art focuses on damage and defense as opposed to healing. The Forsaken Flame attack will launch human enemies into the air, while the Glow and Flow heavy attack deals moderate damage to those caught in its two consecutive attacks.
When it comes to gear, you’ll want to mix and match pieces from the Veil of the Willow and the Beyond the Chill sets.
If you’re looking to balance range and melee attacks, you’ll want to grab the Heavenquaker Spear martial art as well. This not only gives you access to melee weapons, but significant range as well with the spear.
The AoE damage dealt with the spear helps control crowds while your fan deals damage from afar. Proper deployment of the Jadewind Shield will make battles simple in comparison, as you can pick enemies off while maintaining your HP.
Ranged Inkwell Fan Build
To make use of your distance from enemies, you may want to take the Vernal Umbrella martial art. For the attacks that launch enemies into the air, the Inkwell Fan martial art pairs well with the ranged attacks created by the umbrella.
Combos can be created from the protection of the Jadewind Shield, sending numerous projectiles to defeat approaching foes. This is best used for aerial combat, so beginners may not want to start with this until they’ve fully grasped the mechanics of at least one of these martial arts.
For either melee or ranged build, you’ll want to equip the following Inner Way skills:
Morale Chant. Gain stacks of Yi when attacking, increasing physical damage for a few seconds and stacking up to five times.
Vital Leech. Restore HP equal to a small percentage of the damage dealt when casting an Exhaustion Execution skill.
If you’d prefer to balance healing with damage output, then you’ll want to focus on the Panacea Fan martial art. Not only can you heal yourself and others, but you can revive fallen teammates in battle.
Cloudburst healing enables you to summon a water clone at the current location and restore HP, while Endless Cloud consumes all stacks of Dewdrops to burst heal everyone in range.
The Soulshade Umbrella will automatically trigger Endless Cloud if Echoing Grow is not on cooldown.
For a melee combo, Infernal Twinblades is a small yet powerful counterpart to the Panacea Fan. Not only is this easy to play, but you balance AoE healing and damage without compromising the potential of either.

You maintain the revive ability while keeping two blades for quick and up-close attacks. You can master both melee and ranged combat to manipulate any encounter, and you can easily adapt based on how things unfold.
The Soulshade Umbrella martial art is the only other healing art, making it a great addition to solo play. Pairing the two arts together enables you to build a full-ranged combat build with impeccable healing capabilities.
Any combat encounter can be tackled with constant buffs and healing, while both the fan and umbrella can be use to fire projectiles and scatter enemies.
The best armor and accessories you can equip for this build are from the Ivorybloom and Whirlsnow sets!
Morale Chant. Gain stacks of Yi when healing or attacking, increasing physical damage or incoming healing for a few seconds and stacking up to five times.
Echoes of Oblivion. The Infernal Twinblades apply Sin to enemies with normal light attacks, which allows you to ignore ten percent of their physical defense.
Trapped Beast. When you take damage below 30 percent of your max HP, Cornered Beast triggers and generates a shield that absorbs up to 30 percent of your max HP, lasting for four seconds.
Restoring Blossom. Critical Healing applies stacks of Nurturing, increasing the healing received by two percent for three seconds, up to three stacks.
