Arkane Director Assures Everyone That Blade Hasn’t Gone The Way Of Other Marvel Games

Josh has been playing video games for longer than he can remember, kicking things off with a Master System before upgrading to a Mega Drive. Covering the industry since 2018, if a game has a strong story – or even better, the decisions you make determine the course of that story – odds are he’s going to like it. Or, you know, put Sonic or Pikachu on the cover and that’ll get his attention too.

There was a time not too long ago when you put a superhero in something or on something, then that something was guaranteed to succeed. That is no longer the case, which is why, with superhero games getting canceled left and right, before we’ve ever even seen them in some cases, it’s a relief to hear Arkane’s Blade still exists.

Arkane announced that it was working on a Blade game during 2023’s Game Awards, so more than two years ago. It’s been pretty much radio silence on the project since then, which is why, after EA’s Black Panther was canceled and a rumored multiplayer Spider-Man game reportedly bit the dust, many were fearful Blade was headed the same way.

Arkane Is Still Working On Its Blade Game

That’ll be why Bethesda and Arkane content creator TheArkaneRealm added news about Blade, and confirmation that it still exists, to their wishlist. Wish granted as two days after sharing the post, Arkane Lyon co-director Dinga Bakaba replied directly, confirming work on Blade continues, and the team is incredibly proud of the game they’ve built so far.

“The team is hard at work, everyone is super proud and outdoing themselves. Please be patient, it will be a special game, and we all hope it will be meeting the high standards that we set for ourselves and for you all,” Bakaba tweeted. Nothing more, but for now, confirmation that an Arkane-made Blade game is still in development will be enough for most Marvel fans.

Superhero Games Are Dropping Like Flies, But There Are Still A Lot More In The Works

There were more superhero games in development when Blade was revealed. Warner Bros, for example, was working on a Wonder Woman game once upon a time. Not only has that game since been canceled, but Monolith, the studio behind it, has been shut down.

If all goes to plan, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will be the next Marvel game we get, but even that isn’t guaranteed. Its release window keeps getting pushed, and fans are fearful the game might never see the light of day despite how much of it we’ve been shown. We are guaranteed at least two Marvel games in 2026 – Wolverine and Tokon: Fighting Souls. Hopefully, Blade and Rise of Hydra join them and make it out of their respective studios alive.
