Even Though New Vegas Does Exist, Todd Howard Wants Fallout TV Fans To Play 76

Although Christmas is 10 days away, depending on when you read this article, for Fallout fans, particularly those who are fans of Amazon Prime’s live-action Fallout adaptation, the year-end holiday might as well have come early.

That’s because the Season 2 premiere is happening an entire day earlier than scheduled, with the show now scheduled to drop its first episode tomorrow, December 16, at 6 p.m. PT.

As has been shown throughout the trailers, Season 2 will take place in the beloved and iconic locale of New Vegas, and if you’ve yet to play the video games, then Bethesda’s own Todd Howard suggests you play Fallout 76.

Wait what?

Prime Video has provided us with our first glimpse at Fallout Season 2 – and it’s all about Lucy.

In a brief red carpet interview with GamesRadar, Howard stood by the most recent and only Fallout title still receiving regular content updates.

“Well, I have to say Fallout 76 right now, it’s the game we’re still doing the most work in,” Howard said. “The Burning Springs update just came out. The Ghoul is in the game, so if you’re watching the show, and you think, ‘I want to experience that,’ 76 right now is just awesome, and you’re gonna meet other players in the community.”

That’s a pretty roaring endorsement, especially considering that Fallout: New Vegas is literally right there. It was even given away by Amazon for free as part of its monthly games offerings and is also routinely on sale for practically pennies.

However, Howard might not be unfounded when it comes to giving praise to 76.

Fallout 76 Is In Way Better Shape Than Most Recall

If your only recollection of Fallout 76 is the myriad issues that plagued the game at launch, leading to a rather forced and likely regretful announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6, then things have changed mightily in the time since then.

That Burning Springs update that Howard mentioned is particularly meaty, and it does indeed have Walton Goggins in the VA seat, so for those who love the show, and more specifically, Goggins as The Ghoul, then 76 does make a ton of sense.

Elsewhere, a “Dungeon-like” experience was added to the game, as were four-star legendaries, making 76 a good time sink. Then again, so are the other Fallout titles, particularly once you get into the whole RP aspect.

Either way, it is a bit funny hearing Howard immediately go to 76 and not New Vegas, even if 76 definitely does have its own merits. There’s just something about New Vegas that makes it arguably the best Fallout game.
