A Second Oblivion-In-Skyrim Remake Is Picking Up Steam As The Team Shows Off A Remade Anvil

Jack Coleman (He/Him) is a News Editor from Ireland. This is his third full year in games media, having previously worked freelance for various outlets, including DualShockers and NME.
Previously, he’s interviewed breakout indie developers, broken big news stories, reviewed massive releases and recounted his time living as a humble woodsman in Oblivion.
A lifelong gamer, Jack is primarily interested in RPGs and narrative experiences. He’s also been playing League of Legends for a decade, unfortunately.
Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil is a massive project that seeks to recreate the entirety of Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Unlike Skyblivion, which recreates The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Beyond Skyrim seeks to tell original stories in Tamriel’s other provinces. These stories are set during the same time period as the events of Skyrim.
The release of Skyblivion has been delayed until 2026, much to the disappointment of those eager to jump into the massive mod.
In other words, what’s going on in the rest of Tamriel while the Dragonborn becomes a Nightingale, Civil War Hero, Werewolf, Werewolf Hunter Vampire, Vampire Hunter, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Archmage of the College of Winterhold and so on. Personally speaking, my Dragonborn plays the lute. But I digress.
Another huge Skyrim mod is recreating Cyrodiil, but this is different than Skyblivion.
The team behind Beyond Skyrim recently released a two-and-a-half-hour stream that shows off the progress they’ve made on Anvil and the surrounding Gold Coast region. The team released Beyond Skyrim: Bruma in 2017, a stellar mod that allows players to explore Cyrodiil’s northernmost city of Bruma (and the surrounding region) in Skyrim.
Cyrodiil s Zaniest City
The prevailing theme of the team’s Anvil recreation is one of quirky irreverence. There’s no doubt that Anvil is one of Oblivion’s more curious cities, with a cast of zany characters and the potential to purchase a haunted player home. However, this has been amped up even more by the Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil team.
We see people running through the streets naked, fleeing the justice of the Anvil guardsmen. There’s a tongue-in-cheek quest called Child Labour that, to be honest, does a poor job of counter-balancing the humour of the situation with its ethics. Still, the aesthetic of the city is beautiful, and I’m sure we can forgive a writing misexecution or two in a massive volunteer project.
The mod currently employs voice acting generated by artificial intelligence, but the team will be replacing all AI voice acting with real voice actors closer to the release date. There is no release date for when any potential Anvil prelease, and the entirety of Cyrodiil is obviously still years off completion.
