Where Winds Meet Has Fixed The Offline Bounty Exploit In The Best Possible Way

Where Winds Meet’s developers are clearly aware of some of the game’s exploits, as it appears to have recently patched one that let you avoid bounties by going offline.
If you’ve been playing Where Winds Meet since it launched last month, then you’re no doubt aware (and likely not a fan) of its crime and bounty system. If you commit a crime and become wanted, there are various different ways you can be dealt with, including having other real-world players hunting you down for the bounty on your head.
Considering how seriously some players take Where Winds Meet, having a bounty on your head can be pretty annoying, which has led to some players just cheekily quitting the game, going offline, and hoping that the bounty disappears by the time they log back in. It seems that developer Everstone Studios has caught onto that little trick, though.
Where Winds Meet Will Throw You In Jail If You Go Offline To Avoid Your Crimes
Looks Like You ll Just Have To Face The Music
Over on the Where Winds Meet subreddit, one of the most popular posts of the last few days comes from Redditor frangarnonflectar, who shared a rather interesting screenshot. After having a bounty on their heads for stealing, frangarnonflectar tried to escape their crime by going offline, only to find out that the exploit had been fixed.
The Wuxia action-RPG could be the next big thing to come from China, it just makes a couple of confusing decisions.
After logging back into Where Winds Meet, frangarnonflectar had a message saying they’d been sent to prison for robbery since they “tried to escape justice by going offline”. The message explains that justice prevailed since “the authorities captured you” while attempting the offline trick. Clearly, trying to avoid bounties by going offline doesn’t work anymore.
But justice prevails! The authorities captured you while you were attempting this trick and threw you in jail!
It’s not exactly clear when this patch was implemented and if it’s universal, as a previous post about bounty hunting on the Where Winds Meet subreddit notes that some players were being thrown in jail for going offline at least two weeks ago. In that same post, some users said they were able to escape bounties by leaving the game, so it’s not entirely clear what the conditions are right now.
Whatever the case, it’s clear that going offline to avoid your bounties in Where Winds Meet isn’t a great idea, since the developers are clearly aware of that workaround and have addressed it in the best possible way. Now we just need bounty hunting to be less of a pain overall, and it won’t feel like such a double-edged sword.
