Hollow Knight: Silksong’s First Expansion Has Been Revealed Out Of Nowhere, Coming 2026

Hollow Knight: Silksong has only been out for a couple of months, but fans have already managed to rinse pretty much everything there is to experience in Hornet’s latest adventure. Understandably, that left many wanting more, and ever since one of the game’s sound designers explained that they were still working on the title despite its release, the itches for an expansion had well and truly started.
We know that Team Cherry likes to pile expansions on top of a game, as the first Hollow Knight got four before they moved onto Silksong. Hidden Dreams, The Grimm Troupe, Lifeblood, and Godmaster were all free updates that added a bunch of stuff to the original Hollow Knight, and it was pretty likely that Silksong would get the same treatment. In fact, we now actually know when the first one is coming.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Sea Of Sorrow Expansion Launches Next Year
In the late hours of the afternoon, Team Cherry decided to drop a bomb out of nowhere and reveal that Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first expansion will be launching next year. In an end-of-year blog post on the Team Cherry website, the studio revealed that the title of this expansion is Seas of Sorrow, and that it will be launching at some point in 2026, with no specific date or month provided.
Hornet’s Silk Skills are a core part of surviving the winding paths of Pharloom without hundreds of deaths to your save file.
To make things even better, it has also been announced that the Sea of Sorrow expansion will be free for all players, as Team Cherry continues its trend of being disturbingly generous in an age where we’re expected to be nickel and dimed at every turn.
As the name suggests, Team Cherry has explained that this expansion is nautical-themed, and that it will add new areas, tools, and bosses to the game. The studio is keeping quiet about the details for now, but does mention that it will share more information shortly before the expansion’s release next year.
Additionally, Team Cherry has also used this opportunity to announce that the original Hollow Knight will be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 edition, which will also launch at some point in 2026. Just like the Sea of Sorrow expansion for Silksong, those who own Hollow Knight on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to download the Nintendo Switch 2 version for free.
