Xbox Support has confirmed that the issues with Red Dead Redemption’s upgrade path on Xbox Series are down to “the developer”, who is actively looking into fixing it.
The announcement of yet another remastered version of Red Dead Redemption came as a big surprise to all of us who have been waiting for the sequel to get the same treatment, as it’s not been without its issues. Not only has the Netflix port been drawing the ire of people thinking it was a free release, but many Xbox players have been unable to upgrade to the new version.
Earlier this week, we reported that a ton of Xbox players were having difficulty getting the upgrade with their backwards compatible version of Red Dead Redemption, which even prompted a response from Rockstar. That response wasn’t particularly positive, though, and suggested that players would have to pay for the upgrade, something that’s now reached Xbox itself.
Red Dead Redemption s Xbox Upgrade Path Issues Are Apparently Rockstar s Fault
Some Players Are Doubting They ll Ever Get The Upgrade For Free
With all of the issues specifically surrounding Red Dead Redemption’s current-gen upgrade on Xbox, it’s easy to assume that the fault might lie at Xbox’s door. But that apparently isn’t the case at all, as Redditor egk999 actually emailed Xbox Support to explain what was going on, and got a rather interesting response that seems to point the blame at Rockstar.
Xbox Support says that it has forwarded players’ concerns over to the developer and that the matter is now under review. The developer, which could be Rockstar or Double Eleven Studios, is apparently working to resolve the issue, which at least makes it sound like more players should be able to get their upgrade for Red Dead Redemption soon.
Some players in the Reddit thread have been able to get the upgrade path, so it seems like it’s just a just a very inconsistent issue for a lot of people.
It’s a bit of a confusing situation overall, as both responses are different from one another. Xbox’s at least makes it sound like a fix is being worked on right now, and also suggests that it’s more Rockstar’s fault than its own, which is basically the opposite of what Rockstar said. Xbox Support says that players affected should check back over the next few days, so it sounds like the problem is aiming to be resolved sooner rather than later.

Anyone who has ever contacted Xbox support in the last year or so knows that the answer is either from AI or someone who doesn’t speak English natively, so I wouldn’t put too much stock into a text reply.
