Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Is Definitely Happening As It’s Been Rated By PEGI

Jack Coleman (He/Him) is a News Editor from Ireland. This is his third full year in games media, having previously worked freelance for various outlets, including DualShockers and NME.
Previously, he’s interviewed breakout indie developers, broken big news stories, reviewed massive releases and recounted his time living as a humble woodsman in Oblivion.
A lifelong gamer, Jack is primarily interested in RPGs and narrative experiences. He’s also been playing League of Legends for a decade, unfortunately.
The worst-kept secret in gaming is definitely happening, as a listing for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced has been found on PEGI, the European game ratings agency.
As discovered by content creator Corkben, the listing doesn’t give much away. We know the game is called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and we know it’s been rated for 18-year-olds and above. There is no additional information about the game’s release date or the basic premise of the game on PEGI’s website.
Ubisoft has yet to officially reveal the remake, but there have been near-constant rumours about a Black Flag remake for years. The latest round of speculation emerged from a leak by Edward Kenway actor Matt Ryan, who teased a potential remake at a convention while unknowingly being recorded.
Ubisoft threatened Ryan with legal action after this event, and he expressed annoyance that someone would record him without his consent while he was speaking candidly.
Black Flag Resynced is rumoured to be more than a simple remaster, as several changes from the original are being implemented. According to Jeux Video Magazine, Black Flag Resynced will completely remove the modern-day sections that cast you as a rogue Abstergo employee.
There’s also reportedly going to be new RPG elements to bring Black Flag in line with modern-day Assassin’s Creed games, such as Valhalla and Shadows. The map will remain largely unchanged, but will be densely packed with additional things to do. All of Black Flag’s cut content will be integrated into Resynced.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe might be the next announced game, but it sounds like it won’t be the one we’re playing after Shadows.
If the rumours are accurate, Black Flag Resynced will be the first-ever remake released in the series. There have been several visual remasters, but Ubisoft has largely stayed away from committing resources to full remakes. However, given the recent success of triple-A remakes such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, it’s safe to assume that Ubisoft will be giving more consideration to additional remakes going forward.
As for the future of the series, Ubisoft is continuing to release content updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The next mainline Assassin’s Creed, codenamed Hexe, is speculated to release in 2027, though nothing is confirmed.
