Call Of Duty Vows To Never Do Back To Back Releases Again Following Disappointing Black Ops 7 Launch

While we haven’t had any sales figures for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it’s been made pretty clear that the game hasn’t lived up to the standards that players are used to. It’s a game that’s reviewed poorly, hasn’t sold very well compared to the rest of the franchise, and its big Season 1 launch has done barely anything to bring people into the game.

For all intents and purposes, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been a big miss for both fans of the franchise and Activision itself, and it has now pretty much admitted as such in a new message to players.

Call Of Duty Is Scrapping Back To Back Releases For Black Ops And Modern Warfare

In a new post on the official Call of Duty website, the Call of Duty team has admitted that the series has “not met your expectations fully”, and has promised to “deliver and overdeliver” going forward. While Black Ops 7 wasn’t mentioned, this message coming so soon after a rough launch and even rougher Season 1 launch feels like admission that they know people aren’t interested this time around.

Following this, the Call of Duty team outlines the ways in which it’s going to attempt to fix the problem, and one of these ways is to completely halt back-to-back releases going forward. In the post, it’s promised that Modern Warfare and Black Ops games will never release back-to-back ever again, as the team wants to “ensure we provide an absolutely unique experience each and every year.”

Of course, Call of Duty fans will remember that the last game in the series was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, making it two years in a row we’ve got Black Ops games. Under this new strategy, this will never happen again, meaning we’ll most likely get alternating Modern Warfare and Black Ops releases going forward from here on out.

Finally, the Call of Duty team gives a rather vague promise that it’s going to “drive innovation that is meaningful, not incremental.” It doesn’t outright state what that means in terms of the franchise going forward, but it does say it will share those plans when the time is right.
