A New Batman: Arkham Game Looks More Likely As Netflix Enters Exclusive Deal Talks With Warner Bros. Discovery

After it looked likely that Paramount was going to acquire the entirety of Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix has seemingly ended up winning the bidding war. This means that the streaming giant can now enter exclusive talks with WBD to figure out a deal. While the specifications of the deal haven’t been finalized yet, there’s a chance that Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm and Batman: Arkham series studio Rocksteady could soon be owned by Netflix.
As reported by The Wrap, Warner Bros. Discovery selected Netflix after it offered $30 a share for the studio and streaming assets, including a $5 billion break-up fee. Netflix beat out the likes of Paramount and Comcast, with the former seeming like the most likely option. However, it now looks like Netflix will soon vastly expand its streaming portfolio, and even bolster its gaming department, which it has struggled with in the past.
Netflix Wins Bidding War For Warner Bros. Discovery
Now that the bidding war is over, Netflix could possibly acquire the entirety of Warner Bros. studios, HBO Max, and massive IPs like Harry Potter and DC. If it chooses to take the video game studios as well, it could possibly inject new blood into the long-dormant Batman: Arkham games.
There’s no doubt that we all would love a new Arkham game, especially since the last instalment, Arkham Knight, came out around ten years ago. The games were already ahead of their time, but a new game in the series would be most welcomed, given the advancement of technology and improved performance of consoles. Last year’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League didn’t really live up to expectations, leaving fans wanting for a good Batman game.
As for NetherRealm, the Mortal Kombat universe just got a major reboot, with the introduction of a multiverse. This makes it ripe for any sort of story that the legendary developer can cook up, but, at the moment, fans are more interested in a third installment of the Injustice series.
Of course, all of this is only considering Netflix chooses to acquire the video game studios as part of the deal.
