Rhiannon is the Deputy News Lead and Chief Reporter at TheGamer. Affectionately nicknamed “Sonic Freak” by colleagues. Probably thinking about her Baldur’s Gate OCs.
Fallout’s debut season was a smash hit, bringing in enough viewers to make a second season possible. Fallout fans, both new and old, enjoyed this take on the series, and very passionately so, as it built up a fandom of its own.
Many in that fandom started to really, really ship two of the characters: Lucy MacLean and Cooper Howard, AKA The Ghoul. It makes sense, since they spend so much of the first season interacting with one another, and the finale saw them set off for Vegas together. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be canon, at least judging by the actors’ reaction to having Ghoulcy brought up in an interview.
I Don t Think Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, And Aaron Moten Ship Ghoulcy
When Ghoulcy is mentioned, it’s clear that this isn’t Purnell’s first rodeo. She has been asked about this before, and she hardly seems keen on the idea of Lucy and The Ghoul getting together.
“Here’s what I would say: You guys need therapy,” says Purnell. “You can’t fix him, you can’t save him, let it go.
“What The Ghoul and Lucy have is a really beautiful thing. They’re both looking for the people that they love. Let’s leave it at that.”
Goggins just starts laughing in disbelief that this is even a ship. He asks Moten if that makes him jealous, since the show is very much setting up a romance between his character, Maximus, and Lucy (VaultKnight, my beloved). However, Moten just points out that Maximus gets shipped with The Ghoul as well, so everyone is happy.
Whatever happens, a ship does not need to be canon to be enjoyed. I will be waving the Lucy x Max flag whatever happens, and I hope the Ghoulcy enthusiasts will do the same.
But who knows? Perhaps this is all misdirection, and Ghoulcy will set sail in Season 2. They were getting awfully close in one of the trailers, but again, it could all be platonic, as Purnell puts forward. Please, Fallout. Don’t forget about Maximus, I am begging you.
Another mystery we’re waiting to see solved is how the hell the next season will get around Fallout: New Vegas having multiple endings. The writers have said that they will not choose a canon ending and will write around the winner of the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. But that doesn’t explain how we saw a pretty alive-looking Mr. House in a trailer. Perhaps it’s just a flashback, or perhaps, somehow, the house really does always win. Even if we bludgeoned him to death.
