Even After We’ve Seen The Trailer, Product Packaging Continues To Leak Mario Galaxy Movie Details

Josh has been playing video games for longer than he can remember, kicking things off with a Master System before upgrading to a Mega Drive. Covering the industry since 2018, if a game has a strong story – or even better, the decisions you make determine the course of that story – odds are he’s going to like it. Or, you know, put Sonic or Pikachu on the cover and that’ll get his attention too.
Before Nintendo was ready to show us anything from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, tie-in products kept leaking character designs and even information that helped fans figure out potential plot points. It turns out even though we now have a Galaxy Movie trailer, those product leaks aren’t done.
No, once again, a company Nintendo is doing business with to create merchandise for the Mario Galaxy Movie has shared images and information far too soon. This time it’s a toy, a Spin ‘N Match game made by Epoch Games, which at least makes more sense than cookies and Old Spice.
Much like the cookies and Old Spice leaks, the Spin ‘N Match packaging once again features Yoshi, a character who, for some reason, Nintendo has neglected to confirm will be in the Mario Galaxy Movie. That’s despite teasing the dinosaur’s addition in the credits of the first movie, and Yoshi’s movie look now being shown off by three different products before being shown off by Nintendo.
What Is Little Bowser Doing On Yoshi s Back?
Even though we’ve unofficially seen Galaxy Movie Yoshi twice now, this latest leak adds an extra layer to what the character’s role might be in the sequel. If you look very closely, you’ll see Bowser, still under the influence of the Mini Mushroom, riding on Yoshi. The reveal that, at some point, Bowser and Yoshi will work in tandem has Mario fans spinning new theories about the film.
The movie’s Mushroom Kingdom might finally give us answers we’ve been waiting almost 20 years for.
One theory is that Bowser uses Yoshi to escape the tiny castle he’s trapped in while under Mario and Luigi’s watch. Another is that, for a part of the movie at least, Bowser is a good guy, either working alongside Mario and Luigi to help Bowser Jr. who might be in trouble, or to stop his son after power goes to his head.
Speaking of Bowser Jr, while small, the game’s leaked packaging also includes a first look at a more traditional version of the character using his Junior Clown Car. Until now, we’ve only really seen him using his Wonder Flower power. The other part of the packaging that has Mario fans excited is a first look at the movie version of the Nintendo icon using his Star Spin. Sure, we all knew he was going to do it in the movie, probably quite a few times, but it’s still cool to see it for real.
Would have been cooler to see it in a trailer or the movie itself, but leaks are very much the theme for this movie now, I guess.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on April 3, 2026, but we don’t know when we might get trailer number two. Nintendo’s big reveal included confirmation that Brie Larson will voice Rosalina, and Bowser Jr. is voiced by Benny Safdie. The one thing we still don’t know about Yoshi is whether his move version will speak, or if he will just say his own name as he does in the games.
