Joshua Robertson is a News Editor for TheGamer. When not writing about breaking news, community stories, or covering industry events, you can find him begging FromSoftware for a Bloodborne remaster.

For a while now, rumors have been flying about what exactly Crash Bandicoot and Spyro developer Toys For Bob is currently working on, now that it’s gone independent. We know that Xbox and Activision are both heavily involved, as admitted by studio head Paul Yan, and there have been whispers of a potential Spyro the Dragon revival among insiders.

Toys for Bob itself has even been teasing what feels like an imminent Spyro the Dragon announcement, responding to emails from YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh in purple, and adding a purple box with a question mark inside to its own website. They’re being awful teases at the moment, but we finally have what appears to be soft confirmation that something Spyro-related is going on at the studio right now.

New Spyro Game Seemingly Confirmed By Developer Portfolio

In a new video by Canadian Guy Eh, he shares the LinkedIn profile of a former senior concept artist at Toys for Bob called Donald Yatomi, who worked at the studio between August 2022 and March 2024. If you look at the titles that Yatomi claims to have worked on during that time, they list Call of Duty (unsurprising given Toys for Bob was brought on as a support studio at one point), but they also list “Spyro”.

Insomniac’s PlayStation platforming trilogy reached its apex with 2000’s Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Now, as pointed out by Canadian Guy Eh, it’s pretty difficult to imagine this is referring to anything other than a new Spyro game. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy launched all the way back in November 2018, almost four years before Yatomi even started working at Toys For Bob, and while there’s a slim possibility they could be referring to Spyro content in Crash Team Rumble, it feels much more likely that Yatomi would probably list the game rather than a character they worked on.

Subscribing to the newsletter unlocks deeper coverage of the Spyro revival rumors — from Toys for Bob teases to former artists’ credits — plus clear analysis and industry context so you understand what’s likely real and what’s speculation.

It’s not really definitive proof that Spyro 4 is in the works over at Toys for Bob, but I think this is as close to confirmation as we’re going to get outside an official reveal from the studio itself. Add to this all the teases that Toys For Bob itself has put out into the world, and claims from insiders over that time too, it feels like only a matter of time before Spyro joins the likes of Mega Man and comes out of retirement.
