Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Discovering What Happens If You Ignore The Myconid Colony

Jack Coleman (He/Him) is a News Editor from Ireland. This is his third full year in games media, having previously worked freelance for various outlets, including DualShockers and NME.
Previously, he’s interviewed breakout indie developers, broken big news stories, reviewed massive releases and recounted his time living as a humble woodsman in Oblivion.
A lifelong gamer, Jack is primarily interested in RPGs and narrative experiences. He’s also been playing League of Legends for a decade, unfortunately.
In one of my umpteenth, ‘I’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 for X number of hours, and I never knew Y’, I learned that you can save the character Thulla from her grisly fungal fate.
I’m not the only one who wasn’t aware of this, as evidenced by the comments section of a recent thread by Swimming_Variety2907 regarding the character.
Fast-Acting Poison
“This is Thulla. And this is what happened to her because I decided to visit Grymforge first. There’s no cure anymore. I screwed this poor gnome,” the poster writes.
They are referring to the quest Cure the Poisoned Gnome, which is one of the game’s few time-sensitive missions. A Duergar Poison has poisoned Thulla, and the party only has three long rests to save her before her condition advances, and she becomes a Myconid Husk, a sort of fungal zombie.
“Oh neat! I’ve never seen that outcome before,” comments Stoicsports, “2 years later, multiple runs, 300+ hours played and this game still finds new ways to impress me,” adds Powerful_Wombat.
There are numerous ways to cure Thulla, ranging from the delightfully simple to the surprisingly complex. It’s a testament to the immersive elements of Baldur’s Gate 3 that there are so many unrelated items and/or spells that can help Thulla.
The following is all of the items (and a spell) that can cure Thulla from her poisoning.
Lesser Restoration
The Elixir of Silvanus (carried by Nettie in the Druid Grove).
Antitoxin (purchasable from various merchants)
Remedial Potion (crafted or purchasable from various merchants)
Elixir of Poison Resistance (Sold by Arron, or crafted)
Give her the Noblestalk (story item from the Find the Mushroom Picker quest)
It’s not recommended to give Thulla the Noblestalk as it’s more useful for curing other characters, while Thulla is easily helped through other means.

If you do save Thulla, she’ll plead with the player to save her fellow Ironhand Gnomes at the Grymforge. If you manage to pull everyone through their respective Underdarkian nightmares, then you’ll find everyone, including Thulla, in Act 3’s Angleiron Cellar.
After her brush with death, Thulla spends her time crafting runepowder explosives to inflict death on others. Preferably Gortash.
