If you were planning on hopping onto Fox Hunt, the stealth-focused multiplayer component of 2025s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, then think again. That’s because it seems like the mode is dead, or at least as close to dead as it gets without having anything taken offline.

As first shared on social media by creator Stealth, finding a match is nigh impossible, and seeing that Fox Hunt relies on, well, active online participants, that’s not great.

In the picture shared, their matchmaking session was canceled after failing to find enough players.

For reference, after a delay that prevented the mode from launching alongside the full Delta: Snake Eater experience on August 28, Fox Hunt officially landed on October 30 via a free update.

How long ago was Oct. 30? It was 63 days ago, or two months and some change, meaning in that short period of time the mode launched and seemingly died.

As recent as 27 days ago, a player who managed to dump 150 hours into Fox Hunt and collect all the titles noted on Reddit that long wait times were becoming the norm, with players often matching with the same group due to there being no other available participants.

“Konami really dropped the ball with this IMO,” the person wrote. “… It’s a shame because there was a lot of potential.”

Roughly ten days after that, a commenter noted that they had been unable to load into a game because there weren’t even eight available players on PC.

Now it appears we’ve reached the point where there’s no one available. That’s particularly startling considering 1,097 players are actively playing the game on Steam, and likely more on console.

Konami should have seriously released this multiplayer mode alongside the base game.

Of course, the main draw of Delta: Snake Eater is the single-player component, so can you blame anyone for wanting to play that over a late-to-launch multiplayer mode?

The Rapid Death Of Fox Hunt Is Another Thorn In Delta: Snake Eater s Launch

For those who were around for Delta: Snake Eater’s launch, you’ll remember that the myriad performance issues dominated the conversation, prompting some players to suggest that it should have been delayed to avoid a disastrous launch.

An RPG from 2011 shouldn’t run at 30 frames per second on a console from 2025.
