For those looking to survive topside in the dangerous world of Arc Raiders, you will need to fight, scavenge, and craft new gear to fight off the ARC. While the vast majority of items serve some purpose currently in Arc Raiders, there are a handful of items that seem to only exist to either be recycled or sold off for money.

One of these is the new Ion Sputter, which was added alongside the Stella Montis map. Despite the Ion Sputters being seemingly useless for now, it might be a good idea to horde a few because they suddenly become relevant for a new quest or are used as a potential crafting material. Here’s everything you need to know about finding them and what they are used for.
Where To Find Ion Sputters
Unlike a lot of other materials in Arc Raiders, Ion Sputters appears to be exclusive to the new Stella Montis map. Now this could certainly change, but in all the time I have spent playing, I have only found them when looting areas in this level. Because of this, you will want to concentrate your hunt in the following areas on Stella Montis:
Assembly
Assembly and Assembly Workshops are the main locations you’ll find Ion Sputters on Stella Montis. You’ll want to focus on the various rooms along the northern portion of this region, specifically the second-floor control rooms. The drawers there appear to have the greatest chance of these spawning, plus there’s a nearby hatch you can use to escape.
Another spot that I’ve heard others have success with is Assembly Workshop in the northwestern part of Stella Montis. Even though I never seem to have a lot of luck finding Ion Sputters here, my squad always appears to have luck locating this item here. Similar to Medical, Assembly Workshops has a nice density of lootable places, which can certainly increase your chances of finding Epic materials.
As for what the Ion Sputter is actually used for right now, the answer is actually nothing. Currently, it’s not tied to any quest, crafting recipe, or Expedition Project step. That being said, you can sell it for a whopping 6,000 coins or dismantle it for 4 Voltage Converters and a single Exodus Module. This makes finding it still valuable, since you need both of these materials to craft higher-end gear like Heavy Shields or the mighty Bobcat submachine gun.
