Dragon Quest Is Teasing “Various Announcements” For Its 40th Anniversary, And I’m Praying For DQ12

It’s now 2026, and it’s lining up to be a pretty important year for a lot of big video game franchises. Pokemon, Castlevania, Persona, The Legend of Zelda, and more are all celebrating big milestones, but one of the biggest of the bunch is undoubtedly Dragon Quest, which will turn 40 years old later this year.
It’s going to be a big year for the series too. We’ve already seen the likes of Dragon Quest 1 2 HD-2D Remake launch last year, but we have Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined coming at some point in 2026, and potentially a slew of new announcements on the way, if what the Dragon Quest social media accounts have claimed comes to fruition.
Earlier this week, Dragon Quest celebrated the new year by posting a rather exciting tweet to its official Twitter account, asking fans to “look forward to various announcements in celebration of the anniversary.” Of course, these aren’t guaranteed to be game announcements, but it’s worth noting that Dragon Quest’s future beyond 7 Reimagined is pretty much unknown, and fans reckon there’s one game that has a pretty solid chance of finally getting re-revealed.
Where The Heck Is Dragon Quest 12?
If you can believe it, Dragon Quest 12 was first revealed almost five years ago, and we’ve barely heard a peep from those in charge ever since. We’ve seen five whole Dragon Quest games get remade between then and now, and the last mainline game in the series was released all the way back in 2017, a whole eight years ago.
We know that development hasn’t been as smooth as possible, given that one of the game’s producers stepped down back in 2024 due to constant delays, but surely, you’d have to imagine that we’ll hear something about the game sooner rather than later at this point. A 40th anniversary celebration without any info on the next mainline Dragon Quest game would be baffling, and it’s worth noting that Dragon Quest 12 itself was first announced during an anniversary livestream.

Is this a whole bunch of cope? Possibly, but we did get a sort of update from Dragon Quest’s creator last year that the game is still being worked on, so we know it’s not dead in the water. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and pray that one of these “various announcements” that are being teased is the Dragon Quest 12 update that we’re all hoping for.

Hopefully DQ12 will be announced, but to be honest I’m hoping for an announcement that they’re remaking 4,5 6 in the HD2D style. The OG trilogy remakes were so good it’d be a tragedy to not redo more the same way. 4 was my favorite game on the ol NES. Also, I never played 5 or 6 and to do so for the first time with such great quality on display would be stupendous.
