When it comes to live service games with a heavy multiplayer focus, there’s always a choice that developers have to make when it comes to their audience. Do you cater to your casual audience, which will likely be huge, but have a more consistent drop off as the game becomes more stale, or do you cater to your more dedicated audience and lean into the more competitive elements of your game?
It’s a pretty tricky thing to get right, as Marvel Rivals is one such example of a game that struggles to strike the right balance between competitively balanced and actually enjoyable for casuals. However, the Arc Raiders community doesn’t think it’s a problem at all, as it appears to be pretty unanimous that fans want the game to stay “as casual as possible.”
This recent comment came from popular Twitch streamer Ninja, who Fortnite fans will obviously be very familiar with. In a recent stream of his, Ninja said that Arc Raiders would fall in quality dramatically if the developer — Embark Studios — attempted to make it more competitive, going so far as to say that he “hopes there are never tournaments for it.
“I want them to keep it as casual as possible,” says Ninja. “There’s also too much desync for this game to be legitimately competitive. They better never make this game competitive. Ever. Even like joke tournaments.”
Arc Raiders Fans Want It To Stay As Casual As Possible
Now, we all know that sometimes streamers can have takes that don’t really line up with the rest of a game’s community, but it seems like Ninja is on the ball with this one. Arc Raiders fans discussing his comments on the game’s subreddit all seem to agree that Embark leaning into the competitive side of the game would ruin it, with one user called Potential-Frosting14 claiming that “comp play ruined most of FPS/Battle Royale games.”
Another user called UnluckySeed also agrees, adding that they never want to see any kind of ranked mode in the game either, arguing it would split the player base, and we’ll start seeing more minmaxing and competitive strategies. One user called Return_of_valensky argues that this is happening even now, with some people abandoning runs at less than favorable spawn points and grinding out blueprints instead of playing the actual game they bought.

We’ve seen a lot of games struggle to balance their competitive and casual audiences recently, such as the aforementioned Marvel Rivals, as well as Battlefield 6, but Arc Raiders fans seem to think that the game shouldn’t have a competitive audience at all.
