Where Winds Meet is an ambitious, free-to-play, open-world RPG that blends historical drama, martial-arts fantasy, and immersive player-driven storytelling. The world around you responds dynamically to your choices, and your choices are vast.

With such an in-depth game full of mysteries, puzzles, and battles, there is a lot to get to grips with when the developers don’t hold your hand and lead you to every solution. While that’s preferable to many, it can be frustrating. Here are some tips and tricks to get you started on your adventure.

How To Unlock The Best Healing

Located in the western part of Qinghe, Evercare Clinic is where you can get treated for everything from poisoning to a broken bone. It’s also where you increase your capacity to carry medicine.

Healing is scarce in Where Winds Meet; there aren’t a lot of resources early on, and you won’t be able to cure yourself of every ailment. Discovering and unlocking the clinic ASAP is the best way to keep yourself alive on your journey, and, since exploration is the main aspect of the game, nothing is stopping you from wandering off mid-quest to locate a healer.

Pay Attention To Breakthroughs

Leveling up in Where Winds Meet is quite different from most RPGs. You won’t be able to simply farm for XP and level up in the process; you have to pay attention to breakthroughs.

These are requirements that you’ll need to achieve before leveling up, and if you don’t, you’ll be earning and wasting your XP, so make sure to pay attention to where you are in the process of reaching your breakthrough as you run through the world.

How To Use Wind Sense

As mentioned previously, Where Winds Meet really doesn’t hold your hand, and that means aspects of the game could be easily overlooked. One of the most helpful skills to use isn’t largely advertised in-game, and that’s Wind Sense. Think of this as your ‘spidey sense’.

This highlights enemies, objects, and anything of interest, whether you’re running through the landscape exploring or solving a difficult puzzle. Hold down the right stick on a controller or press V on PC to activate Wind Sense if you need some help or guidance.

When starting a game, you’re always given basic weapons which, usually, you don’t want to spend time upgrading, as you’re bound to get better gear later on.

However, in this game, when you go to upgrade a weapon, you’re actually upgrading the slot instead. Leveling up the slot allows you to keep your level even when swapping weapons, so you don’t need to worry about wasting resources on a starter sword or spear; any benefits will be transferred.

Moments When You Can t Double Jump

There are a few reasons why you could find yourself suddenly unable to double jump, and while it won’t be permanent, it can be frustrating if you don’t know why it’s happening. These are the possible reasons as to why you can’t double jump at certain points in the game:

Mo Blades: You cannot perform a double jump while using Mo Blades. There is no explanation why, but it’s likely a balancing issue with the rest of the built-in skills.

Lightness Skill: It’s also possible that you’re in an area that restricts this skill, such as quest areas, dungeons, and NPC homes.

If you’re in an area that restricts the use of the Lightness Skill, a red icon will appear on the top left of your screen.

With the game’s beautiful, vast landscape comes tall, mountain-type terrain. Terrain that, if scaled poorly, can cause a lot of damage to your character, meaning you’ll need to take time out of your adventures to visit the clinic. While it’s often best to stick to the path, a game like Where Winds Meet is all about exploration, and sometimes that means using Skyrim’s rock-climbing techniques.

A good way to reduce damage if needing to take the difficult route is to use the Mighty Drop skill as you’re falling. When you’re in the air, press in the left stick on a controller or Q on PC to drop heavily onto the ground. This negates any fall damage you would have sustained by simply dropping.

Keep Your Ears Open

The visuals in this game are stunning and vibrant, full of color and things to see, and while the game has a lot on display, making sure to listen to your surroundings is just as important. Don’t make the mistake of thinking the game will always show you what you need to do or where to go.

A lot of the time, there will actually be audible cues to follow, such as conversations, a dog barking, or the chirping of an insect. Follow the sound, which should be accompanied by a small soundwave, and more often than not, you’ll find a quest to complete or something interesting to learn.

Changing Time

As you travel the map, you’ll pick up more and more quests; however, not all of them will be available to do straight away. Some tasks require you to wait for a specific time or day, and on the surface, it doesn’t look like there is any way around this, but once you know you can change your in-game clock, everything is different.

It’s easy when you know where to look, and where to look is in the Time tab of the menu. Once it’s open, you can move the dial to whatever time you’d like, advancing the in-game clock and changing the weather to one better suited to you.

Changing the in-game clock doesn’t affect time-limited quests or interactions.
