A Popular Max Payne 3 Mod Is Our Best Look At What A John Wick Game Could Look Like

California born and raised, you can often find Johnny enjoying the sunshine and In-N-Out. When not gaming or writing news, Johnny can be found playing with his two male chihuahuas, Akira and August, whom he affectionately calls his sons.
Saw is also supposed to receive a new Triple-A title, which feels like a decade way too late.
That should be plenty exciting, especially considering that, for as popular as the John Wick franchise is, there has only been one John Wick video game (John Wick Hex) that was delisted earlier in 2025.
In the meantime, fans are turning to a 2022 mod for Max Payne 3 that removes the titular Max Payne and replaces him with John Wick. By all accounts, it’s our best look at how a John Wick game could play.
Because when you boil things down, Max Payne really is the OG John Wick, and the heavy, nonstop shooter focus of the gameplay really is the perfect blueprint for Lionsgate to improve upon.
The mod, which has received a number of improvements since 2022, originally made use of Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077 as the basis before ultimately constructing a unique Keanu Reeves model.
It’s epic in all the right places, and even the cutscenes received an uplift. To date, it has over 47,000 downloads, no small number for a game that was released in *checks notes* 2012.
When word of a Triple-A game began making the rounds on social media, video of the mod in action quickly began circulating, and there’s no doubt some of those downloads have happened in the last 24–36 hours alone.
It’s been two decades since Perfect Dark Zero launched alongside the Xbox 360.
Here’s hoping the game can deliver even an ounce of that high-octane energy, because, quickly looking online, a John Wick game has been something in demand by gamers for some time.
Between Max Payne And Sleeping Dogs, There s Plenty For John Wick To Improve On
A little over a year ago, gamers in the John Wick sub tried to come up with a list of John Wick-style games that can currently be played. They settled on the likes of Max Payne 3, Sifu, the Hitman trilogy, John Woo’s Strangehold and Sleeping Dogs, among others, as the closest you could get to reliving the movies.

All the while, there’s been talk of a Triple-A title, though very little traction until recently. In 2022, Jon Feltheimer, the CEO of Lionsgate, noted an internal belief that there is “a big triple-A game to be made out of John Wick.” Flash forward to 2025, and it looks like that belief is ready to be shared with the world.
Until then, we have Max Payne, err, John Payne to mess around with.
