Remember Starfield? Yeah, me neither, but Bethesda has promised that work on the game’s post-launch support is still ongoing, with a second expansion supposedly in the works alongside a PS5 version. We don’t know exactly when Bethesda plans on releasing these, but multiple reports have pegged them for a 2026 launch.
That being said, we really don’t know exactly what Starfield has to offer us anymore, as the game hasn’t exactly set the world on fire since its release back in 2023. Its first expansion, Shattered Space, went down relatively okay, but was just as much of a flash in the pan as the base game was. To be honest, I’m surprised that Bethesda is still willing to support the title, what with The Elder Scrolls 6 now constantly on people’s minds. It’s still soldiering away though, and according to one insider, the game’s next update may be one to pay attention to.
Starfield s Next Update Will Reportedly Be Equivalent To Phantom Liberty
According to a tweet from notable Xbox insider Septic_Sauce earlier this week, Starfield’s next update is going to be “a big one”, and that it will likely release alongside the game’s launch on PS5. More interestingly, this insider seems to claim that this mystery update will be Starfield’s equivalent to Cyberpunk 2077’s incredibly popular Phantom Liberty expansion
We talked to Craig Sechler about what it was like to reprise the role of The Adoring Fan after 17 years.
Septic_Sauce doesn’t exactly elaborate on what this means, whether they mean by pure quality or the scope and ambition of the update, so it’s pretty safe to take this info with a grain of salt right now. It’s also worth noting that Septic_Sauce doesn’t have the greatest track record of all the insiders out there, and Starfield’s next update being “a big one” is a fairly safe punt that anyone could really throw out.

That being said, Starfield hasn’t had a decent-sized update in quite a while, which does suggest that the next one could be pretty chunky. Whether it will match the quality of Phantom Liberty remains to be seen, but if Bethesda does somehow manage that feat and do it alongside the game’s launch on a whole new platform, it could give Starfield another shot at life.
