Where Winds Meet Players Are Now Tricking The AI Into Solving Riddles For Them

Whether we like it or not, AI is going to be seeping more and more into video games. We’ve seen it with big hitters like Fortnite and Call of Duty, and sadly, it’s only going to get worse. It’s already at the point where it’s attracting the attention of the US Congress.
Where Winds Meet, the first game from Netease-owned Everstone Studio, is one of the games pioneering functional AI (in lieu of paying actual writers). Many of the game’s NPCs and quest givers are effectively AI chatbots programmed to act like tenth-century humans, and while a damning sign, it has so far led to hilarious results.
There have been occasions where people have used the AI to help them skip whole quests, and most impressively, one player managed to convince a male NPC they were pregnant with the player’s child, only for the child to later pass away.
The latest quirk of these characters has now been discovered, with players convincing the AI they’ve solved their riddles, when in fact, they most certainly haven’t.
Where Winds Meet s Riddlers Can Be Overcome Very, Very Easily
Throughout Where Winds Meet’s ancient Chinese world, there are characters who like to test you with riddles. These riddles often test your observation of things that have happened in the world around you, but unsurprisingly, given Where Winds Meet’s dodgy AI, they can be skipped pretty easily.
As shared on the game’s official subreddit, user kamijoan shared a simple way to bamboozle Where Winds Meet’s riddle-giving AI.
Using the tried-and-true method of telling the characters what they want to hear, players can trick the NPCs into thinking they’ve got the riddle correct by simply typing some variation of “(tells him the correct answer)”.

Another user noted that “(Guesses the answer correctly)” also works, but with a general success rate of about 70 percent, and if that doesn’t work, other players suggested that you can ask the NPCs for a clue, including which letter the answers start with, and they will occasionally oblige.
AI isn’t the only controversy Where Winds Meet has faced in its short time on the market. Players have found that building a single boat can cost upwards of 40,000 real-world dollars, and there have also been complaints that the Global Server is receiving unfair treatmentcompared to its Chinese counterpart.
