Every wanderer in the jianghu needs a fighting style that suits them, and the Umbrella is an elegant and effective weapon to use against humanoid foes. However, without the proper build, the Umbrella Martial Arts won’t reach their full potential. Thankfully, we’re here to help you create the idea umbrella build for your playstyle.
Where Winds Meet is a massive open-world, with a steep learning curve if you want to really dive into the jianghu and roleplaying aspects. We’ve outlined the best umbrella builds and Inner Way setups so you can survive any encounter and support your allies with healing.
Best Ranged Vernal Umbrella Build
The Vernal Umbrella, known also as the Ninefold Umbrella, is a great ranged weapon that’s light and elegant. When paired with the Inkwell Fan, you can do even more damage from afar. These two martial arts specialize in launching enemies into the air, allowing you to catch them off guard and keep them from attacking you.
Here’s how to do every step of the Woven with Malice side quest in Where Winds Meet.
This build is best designed for those familiar with the mechanics of both the Umbrella and the Fan martial arts, keeping you safe from a distance in combat. Equip these Inner Way skills for the best shot at success:
Flying Gourd. The Inkwell Fan gets two charges to Peak Springless Silence, but the cooldown is increased.
Thunderous Boom. Moving more than 15m within three seconds triggers Spring Thunder, giving you three airborne heavy attacks to use within 12 seconds. These attacks gain a 15 percent damage bonus.
Your ideal armor and accessories set will come from either the Veil of the Willow set or the Beyond the Chill set. They focus on increasing light and airborne attack damage, as well as increasing your max HP and providing bonuses so long as you don’t take damage, respectively.
Best Melee Ninefold Umbrella Build
This martial art is unique in that it allows you to toss it in the air and draw out a hidden sword to do basic attacks. While in the air, the umbrella will shoot projectiles. For this reason, it’s a good idea to take up the Nameless Sword martial art for a melee build.
You can send the Ninefold Umbrella into the air and switch to your blade, using the following Inner Way skills to help increase damage output:
Sword Morph. When charging the sword’s skill while your Qi Shield is present, multiple sword energy attacks will are unleashed.
Thunderous Boom. Moving more than 15m within three seconds triggers Spring Thunder, giving you three heavy attacks to use within 12 seconds. These attacks gain a 15 percent damage bonus.
For armor, you’ll want to look at balancing the bonuses from the Formbend set and either of the two listed in the previous build, depending on whether you prefer to launch enemies into the air to dice them up, or if you’d rather focus on bonuses by remaining unharmed.
Best Soulshade Umbrella Build
Finally, the best support build is made with the Soulshade Umbrella and the Panacea Fan. This is a fabulous ranged build that maximizes healing, so your HP will rarely reach dangerous thresholds. In addition to healing, you’ll get buffs the whole time as well.

Morale Chant. Gain stacks of Yi when healing or attacking, increasing physical damage or incoming healing for a few seconds and stacking up to five times.
Trapped Beast. When you take damage below 30 percent of your max HP, Cornered Beast triggers and generates a shield that absorbs up to 30 percent of your max HP, lasting for four seconds.
Restoring Blossom. Critical Healing applies stacks of Nurturing, increasing the healing received by two percent for three seconds, up to three stacks.
For weapons and armor, look for pieces from the Whirlsnow and Ivorybloom sets. These will amplify your healing capabilities, allowing you to act as a vital healer in any combat scenario.
