Persona 6 Hope Is At An All-Time High, As A Lead Developer Says 2026 Could Reveal “Future Developments For The Series”

Persona studio director Kazuhisa Wada has revealed that one of his ambitions for 2026 is the chance to announce “future developments” for the series, which surely means Persona 6.

Even though Persona fans have had more than enough to keep them going in the near-decade since Persona 5 originally released, that hasn’t stopped us all from asking one thing – where the heck is Persona 6? Sega and Atlus have made it very clear that the next big game in the series is in the works, but aside from a green leak, we’ve seen nothing concrete.

Rumours of Persona 6 finally getting announced have been flying around for years, leaving fans of the series to get worked up and disappointed every time nothing ended up happening. Well, it might be time to start getting excited for 2026, as it sounds likelier than ever that something big might be announced.

Persona Studio Director Hints At Big Series Announcements In 2026
Persona 6 Believers, Get Your Hopium Ready

Now that 2025 is nearly wrapped up, 4Gamer.net has shared its annual collection of year-end interviews (as translated by Gematsu) with prominent Japanese game developers, which usually centres around their hopes for the new year. As always, several Atlus developers took part in the interview, and studio director Kazuhisa Wada had something very interesting to say.

When asked about his ambitions for 2026, Wada pointed out that the year will mark Persona’s 30th anniversary, which will have a “wide variety of initiatives on a global scale” for fans to look forward to. So far, so normal, but Wada went on to say that he thinks 2026 will provide opportunities to “talk about future developments for the series”.

Additionally, we believe there will be opportunities in 2026 to talk about future developments for the series. Preparations are steadily coming together, and all of us at ATLUS will be giving it our all to build excitement around Persona, so we sincerely ask for your continued support. – Kazuhisa Wada

Considering how long it’s been since we got a big new Persona game, I can’t help but think that Wada is referring to the long-awaited Persona 6 here. While there’s a chance he’s just referring to Persona 4 Revival, Atsushi Nomura outright mentions all of the support and excitement for it in his interview, suggesting it’s not really a “future development” in the same way a new mainline game is.

We’ll have to wait and see what 2026 brings for Persona fans, but with the 30th anniversary, incredibly long wait since the last mainline game, and Wada’s comments, it seems like there’s actually a decent chance that Persona 6 might finally be announced next year.

Developers are reportedly crunching on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet at Naughty Dog.
