Early on in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can find the
Goblin’s Drawing in the woods, depicting “three stick figures” scrawled onto parchment. A lot of fans have been confused about its purpose, whether it’s just useless junk to fob at the nearest merchant or if it has a deeper meaning. As many have pointed out, it’s immediately obvious that the drawing is a clue to the nearby camp having three leaders, something even spelled out in the journal, but there’s a little more to it than that.
The item description mentions “a goblin with sparks in its hands, a square, humanoid figure, and what seems to be an elf”, each wearing a crown. The ‘elf’ in question is, of course, Minthara, but u/BaconSoda222 highlighted an interesting detail that many of us missed; when you pick up the item, “Your character comments on a drow in the drawing, so you can infer to use disguise self to look like a drow when talking to goblins.”
Goblins are subservient to drow, so if you disguise yourself as one (or are just playing as a drow), they will do as you say and allow you to walk freely about the camp without needing to pass difficult dialogue checks. Larian may not have spelt it out as plainly as ‘try disguising yourself’, but this crude sketch at least offers a way to figure that option out without needing to scour the forums or guides.
It Is Important If You Skipped The Grove
Still, even with these context clues and journal updates, a lot of fans were left confused by the drawing, something made apparent by u/the_lightbringer94’s post, which amassed over 1,600 upvotes: “Still have no clue what this is meant for”.

Sure, many were quick to point out the answer – it’s another tip to help you navigate the goblin camp, even offering a subtle hint at how you might blend in (failing that, it’s an easy way to make 14 gold). But posts like these just go to show how much detail is crammed into Baldur’s Gate 3, as even over two years since launch, people are stumbling onto these discoveries and learning new things as early as Act 1.
